Gimme Tranny

Here’s an online column about tranny culture that I read weeks ago that I whole-heartedly agree with. Though it was written last year, it still holds true now. Simon Doonan doesn’t mince words in telling us how trannies have been an unacknowledged force in the gay movement. More so, they’re not given the proper respect accorded to them.

Though I have never felt the need to chop off my own willie, I take no issue with those who have. On the contrary, the trannies of the world and I have always hit it off. The best thing about living in New York was always the high density of cross-dressers, transgendered persons, drag queens, hermaphrodites and what-have-yous who sprinkled their fairy dust on all and sundry at L’Escualita, the Pyramid Club, the Copa and other unsavory boîtes. Does anyone still remember G.G.’s Barnum Room? Mandy, Candy, Sandy, Ava and Potassa … thanks for the memories! You “girls” were funny, you were crazy, you freaked people out, and you never failed to add a sizzle of Warholian glamour to any occasion. And you had guts: When the chips were down, it was purse-wielding trannies who subdued the police at the Stonewall riots, while the “butch” clones trembled on the sidelines in their Lacoste shirts.

Where else but in TVLand where you can get tranny news this preposterous? Who would have thought that Rebecca Romijn would even consider pulling this stunt? I wonder if Ugly Betty’s producer Salma Hayek will ever approve or not.

Rebecca Romijn wants Ugly Betty writers to make her character fat so she can have a baby. The blonde beauty, who plays transsexual Alexis Meade in the hit the US TV show, is desperate to start a family with her actor husband Jerry O’Connell and they recently had dinner with Ugly Betty producer Marco Pennette to discuss writing her pregnancy into the show.

I know this three years old, but I get a kick out of seeing this picture. It’s interesting how a tranny was caught on camera between CNN’s Christian Amanpour and Anderson Cooper’s news conversation. Between the two journalists, I’d rather see what this tranny will do once she sees Cooper.

It’s just so out of place. So spur of the moment and oh so funny!

She’s hot, pretty, and, surprisingly, a dude. Meet Miriam Rivera, a transsexual beauty who is the object of affection in the new US reality show “There’s Something About Miriam”. Imagine the Joe Schmo Show, but a lot crueler. Originally aired in the UK, the contestants sued the show for irreparable damage. Below is the details of the show:

Fox Reality Channel snatches this show whole from the U.K., where it’s said to have been a controversial hit nearly four years ago under the title “Find Me a Man.” The suitors here don’t become privy to their prize’s true anatomical nature until near the end of their quest, which is simply cruel. Miriam offers that she is into “straight guys,” so it’s no wonder she has been so frustrated in her search for Mr. Right to this point. That penis thing keeps getting in the way.

Finally, a transsexual in network television! “Dirty Sexy Money” ABC’s latest series about the New York family who are not happy with their disposition despite their wealth, features a transgender named Carmelita, played by real-life shemale Candis Cayne. What makes the character different from other transsexuals in film and television is that she brings a fuller perspective of being part of such a sex group. More importantly, the character strives for public consciousness with regard to transgenders, that they are not different than you really think they are. Below is an excerpt from the article:

Amid the bawdiness, the soft-spoken Miriam barely figures as a character. She’s more like the quintessential object, so naturally female-looking that it’s hard to watch the show without staring at her nether regions. It’s tempting to feel sorry for her - and a little chilling, given the history of violence against transgender people, when she says at one point that “I need someone to protect me.” But it’s also likely that she doesn’t mind what the producers are doing; her chief ambition appears to be fame. After the series ran in England, she did a stint as a guest visitor on “Big Brother Australia.”
