‘Rocky Horror’ a fun-filled time warp
Halloween is about to take its course, and transsexuals in Chicago are having their share of the horrific spotlight as the city hosts “The Rocky Horror Show” in Mercury Theatre.
This 1975 cult classic is a musical written by Richard O’Brien about two regular people who meet up with Dr. Frank-N-Furter and his people from Transsexual Transylvania. Here is an excerpt from a review I read from Sun-Times News Group:
But the campy sci-fi gothic isn’t for everyone. With its nudity, everything-goes sexuality and raunchy style, it will outrage the sensitive theatergoer and thrill “Rocky Horror Picture Show” fans.
As with the film version, aficionados of this campy favorite arrived at the show dressed in fishnet nylons, high heels and heavy black makeup, doing their best to look like their favorite characters.
From their seats, they sang along with the performers, screamed their approval at certain phrases and yelled their personal comments.
Obviously, they were having a good time with this nostalgic shocker that, in light of the three decades that have passed since the film came out, doesn’t seem so shocking anymore.
