From 365gay.com, a transsexual woman claims that she was forced out of her job as as trucker after she began to transition and is seeking thousands of dollars in compensation.

Vikki-Marie Gaynor, 37, has been a transport trailer driver since she was a teen but when she began to transition and started to appear as a female she says her shifts were cut, was subjected to verbal abuse, and eventually had to quit her job.

After a tour with the British military Gaynor returned to driving a truck and got a job through the Blue Arrow recruitment agency with Exel Europe, a company tied to international courier DHL.

At first, she tells the Daily Mail, she got along well with her bosses and other workers. But that all changed when she began to transition.

“When I first started I was a respected driver, I turned up for work on time and did my job very professionally. My bosses knew me as Mike and had no idea I was a transsexual,” she told the paper.

“But almost as soon as I told them I was changing my name to Vikki-Marie and entering the transition stage of my gender reassignment, things changed. I started getting hurtful comments and my shifts started being cancelled without warning. In the end I realized I could no longer go to work, it was too painful.”

Gaynor names both Exel and Blue Arrow in the case. If she is successful the companies could be forced to pay out close to $1-million.

“I have been treated in an horrendous manner by my employers,” Gaynor told the Daily Mail.

“It is not right that I should be forced out of my job simply because I want to live as a woman and wear the clothes I was born to wear.”
